Given the specifications and looks of the TV, we are assuming that the ‘Lux’ in the name stands for luxurious edition and you will agree to when you find out more about the TV. The Mi TV Lux is an OLED TV which you may think is quite regular, but the twist here is that the OLED panel on the Mi TV Lux is transparent. Xiaomi had launched a variant of the Mi TV Lux earlier which had a 65-inch display but that did not have a transparent panel. This Mi TV Lux 55-inch variant has a transparent OLED panel so when kept on a tabletop, one can actually see through the TV as if it’s just a slab of glass. The display is just 5.7mm thin and the TV also has a high refresh rate display clocked at 120Hz. There is support for Dolby Atmos on the Mi TV Lux so there’s no compromise in the picture quality department either. Xiaomi claims that this is the first-ever mass-produced transparent television in the world.
The Mi TV Lux transparent edition has the MediaTek 9650 chipset which is a flagship-grade SoC for Smart TVs. Due to the transparent panels, pictures appear to be floating on the screen. The Mi TV Lux runs on MIUI for TV and has a 150000:1 contrast ratio and the panel covers 93% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. It is a 10-bit panel that has the ability to display 1.07 billion colors. The system also supports Always-On display and allows users to customize display images and texts. The Mi TV Lux Transparent Edition is priced at a whopping 49,999 RMB (~$7000/Rs. 5.4L) and will go on sale from 10 AM on August 16 in China. There is no word about availability outside of China as of now.
